  3. Nearly $40 million in bed tax to fund five Pinellas County projects

    CLEARWATER — Nearly $40 million in taxes paid by visitors in hotels, motels and other overnight rentals will help fund five major Pinellas County projects over the next three years.

    The Clearwater Marine Aquarium was the big winner in bed tax funding. Pinellas commissioners approved $26 million toward the $66 million expansion of the aquarium’s site on Island Estates.

    PINELLAS PARK — An 82-year-old woman who wandered away from the customer area of a recycling center was killed Tuesday when a front-end loader knocked her down and ran her over, police said.

    Pinellas Park police said an 82-year-old woman was accidentally killed Tuesday when she was caught under the wheels of this front-end loader at Recycling Services of Florida.

    PALM HARBOR — Pinellas County sheriff's deputies on Monday arrested a man who they say took inappropriate photos of a woman at a Starbucks.

    CLEARWATER — A veteran hotel employee and New Jersey police officer were part of a team that saved a 2-year-old boy from drowning Sunday afternoon at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort.

    When state Rep. Larry Ahern was tabbed earlier this year to craft a bill to reform the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board, he said publicly there was no need to disband the agency.

    Rep. Larry Ahern, R-Seminole, used private email to discuss the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board's problems while he was drafting legisation to fix the agency earlier this year.     CLEARWATER — A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle last week in Clearwater died Friday afternoon at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, according to police.

  13. Pinellas deputy's car rammed in fake cash incident at McDonald's


    CLEARWATER — A deputy was injured Friday morning when a fleeing vehicle rammed his patrol car, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

    Suzanne Hyland, 30, of Orlando is accused of passing a counterfeit $10 at a McDonalds, then trying to flee from deputies with her boyfriend, Albert D. Lowe.
